Der achte Doktor, gespielt von Paul McGann, trat 1996 im
Doctor Who-TV-Film auf und markierte eine Rückkehr der Serie
nach einer langen Pause.
Er zeichnete sich durch einen leidenschaftlichen, charmanten Charakter aus, der sowohl aufbrausend als auch nachdenklich sein konnte.
Durch ihn wurde die Figur des Doktors mit einer einigartigen Intensität und Eleganz gefüllt, was vor allem in den Hörspielen von Big Finish weiter ausgebaut wurde. Der achte Doktor hatte eine starke
emotionale Tiefe und war oft von der Verantwortung geprägt,
das Universum zu retten.
