At the beginning of this new incarnation the Doctor was based on earth with UNIT because of his exile which was imposed on him by the Timelords. With his expertise in Technology and martial Arts this Doctor was like a combination of a Scientist and Fighter figure and fighted earth based and extraterrestrial threats.

For the 20th Anniversary five Doctors got together in which Richard Hurndall portrayed the first because William Hartnell sadly passed away in 1975. Besides him there were also the Second Doctor (Patrick Throughton), third (Jon Pertwee), fourth (Tom Baker, whith Archival Material) and the fifth Doctor (Peter Davison).
